RHIANNON Brown is set to be the face of a national campaign urging football fans to consider organ donation after the under-16s Town keeper helped improve the lives of three people since her sudden death.

Today NHS Blood and Transplant service will begin a drive at stadiums up and down the country to encourage supporters to give blood or sign up to the organ donation register.

There are currently 10,000 people in urgent need of a transplant.

While Rhiannon had made her wishes clear, her parents had to rubber stamp her decision, so the NHS is also appealing for families to carefully consider the benefits of donation.

Dad Jason said: “She was an organ donor and we received word from Oxford Brookes to thank us and let us know that all of the operations have gone really well.

“There have been three transplants and none have been rejected which is great news.

“Because she was only 15 we had to give our approval but the fact she was a donor sums her up.

“She is still being an inspiration to people, and we have had parents come up to us saying that their little girl wants to be an organ donor because they heard what Rhiannon had done.”

Swindon Town have joined the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City in throwing their support behind the fresh drive, which will be featured in matchdays over the coming weeks.

Rhiannon’s story will be highlighted to inspire others to follow her lead.

Jon Holloway, Rhiannon’s former coach at the Swindon Town in the Community Trust, paid tribute to the tenacious teenager last week at her funeral.

“It was clear this was a young girl who had a special talent for goalkeeping,” he said.

“She rallied her team with a bulldog spirit, and nobody messed with Rhiannon.

“Football does not only build charcter, it reveals it, and Rhiannon was a wonderful character.”

Anthony Clarkson, the assistant director for organ donation and transplantation at NHS Blood and Transplant, said: “My condolences go out to Rhiannon's family, losing someone you love is never easy and Rhiannon was clearly a much loved daughter who was also a talented and popular young football player.

“By signing up to the Organ Donor Register Rhiannon had already made her donation wishes known.

“In doing so she made her family’s decision to donate her organs easier as they knew that it was what she wanted.

"It has been great to see the local community supporting Rhiannon's family during this difficult time.

“We appreciate all the support Rhiannon's family have shown for organ donation and for our current football campaign.

“I am certain that Rhiannon’s selfless gift of life will inspire others to join the Organ Donor Register.

“If Rhiannon's story has inspired you, please join the Organ Donor Register and let your loved ones know your donation decision."
