Encana chief executive Doug Suttles is relocating from the company’s Calgary headquarters to its Denver, Co. office, likely towards the end of spring, the energy company said Friday.

Suttles move is for personal reasons and there are no plans to move Encana’s (ECA.TO) headquarters from Calgary,  the company’s vice president of communications, Simon Scott, told BNN’s Tara Weber. The news was reported earlier today by The Globe and Mail.

The CEO’s relocation comes amid rising concerns that Encana might move south of the border because of the company’s increased spending in the Permian and Eagle Ford basins.

Scott said Suttles already regularly travels between Calgary and Denver, and will be present in Calgary just as much as he is now.

As many as 1,000 employees work in Encana’s Calgary and Denver offices and the number of workers is evenly split between both locations, the company said.
