Grêmio defender Geromel insists that his team can leave the UAE with their heads held high despite losing the FIFA World Club Cup Final to Real Madrid. Madrid managed a narrow 1-0 win thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo free-kick.

O Tricolor defended gamely, but could not find a breakthrough against the Champions League winners. But centre half Geromel says there is plenty for he and his players to be proud of as they return to Brazil.

“We take pride aand huge pleasure to be here. Unfortunately, we did not achieve the goal, which was to be world champion. Everyone did the best, from the attackers, who ran and helped us a lot in defending. If we had any success today it was the group’s commitment.

We leave here with the pride of being Brazilian,” said Geromel, who also praised Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored the winning goal. “He is the best player. He was decisive once more. We did our best to ify him, but we could not do it.”
