PDEA seizes P15-M shabu from Correctional, condo near Palace


The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency on Monday seized more than P15 million worth of shabu in separate operations against a mother and daughter at the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong City and at the latter's condominium near Malacanang in Manila.

The arrested suspects were identified as 72-year-old Taiwanese Yuk Lai Sze, who use the aliases Yuk Lai Yu and Anna Sy Balmeo, a detainee at Correctional Institute for Women;  and her daughter Diane Uy, of 867 General Solano street, San Miguel.

PDEA spokesperson Derrick Carreon said their operatives conducted Oplan Galugad at the Correctional before dawn Monday.

He said they earlier tried and successfully bought shabu from Yuk Lai Sze.

Seized from her were two kilos of suspected shabu in packs and jars worth P4.5 million; 135 grams of suspected shabu hidden in 27 pieces of panty liners worth P945,000; one million pieces of empty capsules; one million capsules of suspected drugs; 19 pieces of checks amounting to P633,593 and one blank check book; five automated teller machine cards; one bank account with a deposit of P1,501,934.36 under the name of Balmeo.

Also recovered were five cellphones; one tablet; one pocket WIFI; unused foils and empty self sealing plastic packs; 18,500 New Taiwan dollar; 801 Chinese yuan; 8,440 Hong Kong dollar; 40 Saudi riyal; 12 Qatar riyal; 20 dirhams, 16 US dollars; and P110,982.

Carreon said a total of 180 Bureau of Correction employees are now undergoing drug test administered by PDEA.

He added that Correctional director Elsa Alabado had been replaced by lawyer Daisy Castillote because of the incident.

In a follow up operation around noontime, PDEA agents searched Uy's condominium unit which was only meters away from the Solano Gate of Malacanang.

Seized from her were some P10 million worth of shabu, reported Carlo Mateo of Super Radyo dzBB.

PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino was quoted as saying that Uy tried to bribe PDEA agents with P5 million.

Uy denied that she tried to bribe the agents and claimed that the shabu were planted.

The report said PO3 Walter Vidad, a member of PNP Special Action Force and alleged bodyguard of Uy, was also being investigated. —NB, GMA News
