Queen's estate rejects Star Wars filming request

A Star Wars request to film on land owned by the Queen has been turned down.

The film franchise asked to film scenes at Windsor Great Park in Berkshire, but the Crown Estate rejected the request.

An estate spokesman told the BBC: "Our head isn't turned by star names or star films."

The Crown Estate's head of commercial operations, Nick Day, said: "Star Wars was just such a huge thing that the risk for the park was just too great.

"The location they were interested in wasn't suitable for large numbers of people in there.

"Our priority is to maintain and protect Windsor Great Park and we can facilitate film crews if we're sure the risk to the park is minimal."

The site was recently used for the new Winnie the Pooh film Goodbye Christopher Robin, starring Margot Robbie.

Windsor Great Park's website states it offers "an outstanding location with many benefits" which include a "great choice of natural landscapes, including lakes, formal gardens, ancient deciduous woodland and wild evergreen forests".

It also boasts a network of private roads and bridges, access to buildings that feature dramatic interior spaces and private and discreet locations.
