Wind speed picked up after lunch, with the strongest gust of 83km/h recorded by the Bureau of Meteorology at 1.44pm at Bathurst Airport.
Bathurst’s State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers were called to trees down at the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre as well as Suttor and Keppel streets.
Crews were then called to Bentinck Street after roof capping, that had been ripped off Big W in the Stockland Centre, landed on the roadway.
Tree branches also fell along Hereford Street and in Kings Parade.
Bathurst SES controller Dave Chemello said storm warnings were issued prior to the strong winds and crews were on standby.
He praised the community for their response during the gusty weather and helping during clean up operations.
