DEBT TENDER

Romanian debt managers tender 500 million lei ($129.05 million) worth of April 2024 treasury bonds.

EUROPEAN COMMISSION

European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker told the EU's eastern states on Wednesday he would fight for equal rights for their consumers, but their workers would not be allowed to unfairly undercut those in western members.

SIBIU VS BREXIT

Transylvania may not seem everyone's idea of a fun weekend away to get over a painful break-up but that is Jean-Claude Juncker's prescription for EU leaders to cope with the blues on the day Britain walks out.

CURRENT ACCOUNT

Romania's current account deficit rose to 3.63 billion euros ($4.35 billion) in the first seven months compared with 2.22 billion euros in the same period of last year, central bank data showed on Wednesday.

BUDGET REVISION

Romania's Social Democrat government will approve on Wednesday a budget revision that will keep the consolidated budget at the initial target of 2.96 percent of gross domestic product in cash terms, Finance Minister Ionut Misa said.

CEE MARKETS

The Hungarian forint hit a two-month low on Wednesday, extending a weeks-long downward drift as investors looked to a meeting next week at which the central bank is widely expected to loosen monetary conditions further.
