County Durham group posts profit rise

County Durham-based Kans and Kandy group, which comprises both wholesale and property development businesses, has increased pre-tax profits past the £4m mark and is expecting continued growth for "the foreseeable future".

The Seaham company owns and operates Kans and Kandy (Properties), Kans and Kandy (Wholesale), Kans and Kandy Property Development and Cosmetics by Candy.

The wholesale operation is run out of a 135,000 sq ft County Durham warehouse while the group's property portfolio comprises of commercial units, residential units and development land.

For the year to 30 June 2016, turnover was down from £20.1m to £17.4m.

The majority of sales – £16.8m – were courtesy of the wholesale arm, with the remaining £597,138 attributed to rental income.

The UK market proved to be the most lucrative for Kans and Kandy, bringing in £13.6m of turnover. Revenue from the European and rest of the world markets was £2.58m and £1.15m respectively.

Pre-tax profits were up from £3.62m to £4.55m.

In a review of the year, Kans and Kandy said: "The results for the year and the financial position at the year-end were considered satisfactory by the directors, who expect continued growth in the foreseeable future.

"The group has continued to increase profit during what remain difficult trading times.

"This has been achieved by continued development of contracts with international suppliers to sell on their surplus stock, and maintaining strong relationships with valued customers."
