Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Shipbuilding and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043), which rose 15.98% or 58.0 points to trade at 421.0 at the close. Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366) added 6.61% or 52.0 points to end at 839.0 and Inpex Corp. (T:1605) was up 5.69% or 48.8 points to 906.1 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nichirei Corp. (T:2871), which lost 3.16% or 74.0 points to trade at 2266.0 in late trade. Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (T:9062) declined 2.27% or 11.0 points to end at 473.0 and Shionogi & Co., Ltd. (T:4507) shed 1.74% or 91.0 points to 5138.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1431 to 543 and 87 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.17% to 19.77.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for November delivery was down 0.28% or 0.13 to $46.92 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December fell 0.57% or 0.28 to hit $48.96 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.06% or 0.85 to trade at $1324.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.84% to 101.54, while EUR/JPY rose 0.88% to 113.93.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 95.45.
