China Mobile Ltd. is not only battling China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. for customers in the world’s most-populous nation, but also Dallas-based AT&T Inc. for the global crown of most-valuable phone carrier. China Mobile’s efforts to retain the world title, which it held most of the time from late-2007 to early this year when AT&T caught up after passing Verizon Communications Inc., have been slowed by increased competition in its home market. China Mobile was downgraded from buy to neutral by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. last week, while the bank’s analysts upgraded UnicomBloomberg Terminal, citing the latter’s inroads into the 4G market and pressure on roaming charges.
