The First Trust Materials AlphaDEX Fund ETF (FXZ) is seeing unusually high volume in afternoon trading Tuesday, with over 1.2 million shares traded versus three month average volume of about 101,000. Shares of FXZ were off about 1% on the day.
Components of that ETF with the highest volume on Tuesday were Freeport McMoran (FCX), trading down about 2% with over 14.7 million shares changing hands so far this session, and Alcoa (AA), down about 2% on volume of over 7.7 million shares. Newmont Mining (NEM) is the component faring the best Tuesday, higher by about 2.9% on the day, while Lyondellbasell Industries (LYB) is lagging other components of the First Trust Materials AlphaDEX Fund ETF, trading lower by about 4%.
