Springfield Kiwanis Club Makes Donation To Asnuntuck

East Windsor Farmers Market Is Held Sundays At Trolley Museum

EAST WINDSOR – The East Windsor Farmers Market will be held every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Connecticut Trolley Museum, through Sunday, Oct. 2.

Connecticut Trolley Museum’s Fire Truck Show

EAST WINDSOR — The Connecticut Trolley Museum, 58 North Road, Route 140, will hold a Fire Truck Show on Saturday, July 30, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The show will give visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal with all aspects of the firefighting industry including over 20 fire trucks to view with opportunities to sit in the trucks, try on firemen’s turnout gear, watch fire hose demonstrations, maneuver through a kids maze using a fire hose and take home a souvenir fire hat as well.

Bus Service Available To Camp Merrie-Wood

MANCHESTER — It’s summertime, so that means that Girl Scouts of Connecticut’s summer camps are getting ready for a summer of fun. Camp Merrie-Wood in Manchester is a summer day camp with free bus service so girls to be picked up and dropped off to camp each day. Bus services for Camp Merrie-Wood includes the following towns: East Hartford, Enfield, Glastonbury, Hartford, Manchester, South Windsor, West Hartford, Wethersfield, Windsor, Windsor Locks, Ellington, Tolland and Vernon.

Camp Merrie-Wood caters to all girls K-12 and they do not need to be Girl Scouts to come to our camps. Being outdoors is incredibly important for anyone of any age, but recent studies find that being outdoors can help improve one’s sense of self and overall self esteem. Enfield Recreation Department

ENFIELD — Enfield Recreation Department, 19 North Main St., offers the following programs:

Summer Sunshine Program, for children ages 3 – 6 years old, is held Tuesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon starting in July at the Lamagna Center. Spaces are limited. Don’t delay, register today.

Adult Open Gym Basketball, for adults 25 and over at the Lamagna Center through Aug. 30. Participants must show proof of age and residency to participate in addition to having a program waiver on at the gym. Schedule: 25+ Mondays, 6–9 p.m., 30+ Tuesdays, 6-9 p.m., 40+ Saturdays, 8–11 a.m.

Tons-o-fun Summer Camp is offered for children grades 1 through 10, registering in two age groups, in grade 4 or grades 5-10. Camp is held at JFK Middle School and the program runs through Friday, Aug. 5, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Before and aftercare extended hours are available as well as a post-camp session. All regular pool rules apply. Anyone going in the pool must be swim tested before being allowed to swim. The pool will be open at noon. It is strongly recommended that you arrive at the pool between noon and 1 p.m. so you can be swim tested before the event starts. No pre-registration is required. This event is for Enfield residents only.

Open Swim at the Lamagna Center Pool will be open through Aug. 19.

Baby Sitter Safety Course 101: An entry level course for youth ages 10 – 15 years old. Participants receive a CD-book, handouts and a baby sitter safety certificate. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 9 to 1 p.m. at the Lamagna Center. Don’t delay, register today.

Destruction Of School Records Scheduled

ENFIELD — In accordance with state law, The office of the superintendent of schools in Enfield is preparing to destroy health school records of students who graduated in 2010 from Enfield and Fermi high schools and special education records for that year will also be purged. These records may be needed for Social Security benefits or other purposes. No information from this record will be maintained.

Former students who would like to obtain their health or special education records should contact the Pupil Personnel Services Department at 860-253-6536. The records will be destroyed after Sunday, July 31.

Kindergarten Readiness Camp

ENFIELD — The Enfield Family Resource Centers will hold a free Kindergarten Readiness Camp this August for children entering an Enfield Kindergarten in the fall who have had no formal preschool experience. Children will participate in a simulated Kindergarten experience at the Family Resource Center’s Stowe location, 117 Post Office Road, running from 9-11:30 a.m. on Aug. 1-5 and Aug. 8-12. Summer Children’s Workshop

SOMERS — The Village Players of Somers will have a summer musical workshop for children ages 9 to 11 (grades 3-5), for two weeks, Monday through Friday, from Aug. 1–12, from 9 a.m. to noon each day, at the Millpond Playhouse building, 55 School St. in Somersville. There will be a fee of $70 per child, and the class will be limited to 20 students.

Students will showcase their performance and music skills on the final day in the performance of the “Phantom of the Music Room,” which will be held at a local venue on the evening of Friday, Aug. 12.

Free Summer Meals For Children

ENFIELD — Enfield children and their parents have a cool place to eat free lunches and enjoy enrichment activities this summer. Summer Lunch Bunch will operate weekdays through Aug. 19 from 11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Hall, 64 Pearl St.

Parents attending Summer Lunch Bunch with their children will also be provided with a free lunch this summer. A grant from MassMutual Life Insurance Company, through its employee giving program called Mutual Impact, will provide free meals to parents attending with their children.

Activities begin at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served from noon to 12:45 p.m. daily. On Tuesdays, Michele Wilcox, a teacher at Hazardville Memorial School, will keep math skills fresh through various games and activities.

Integrity Martial Arts from Enfield will give a martial arts demonstration on Aug. 4.

The Foodshare Mobile Food Truck will also be at the St. Patrick’s parking lot on July 29 and Aug. 12 from 12:45 to 1:15 p.m.

The Congregational Church Of Somersville

SOMERSVILLE — The Congregational Church of Somersville, 22 Maple St., will hold an Ice Cream Social on Saturday, July 30, from noon to 2 p.m., on the green, at the intersection of Route 190 and Maple St. This event is our way of reaching out to the local community, introducing our church, its congregants, and our pastor. The Golden Fellowship Club

GREATER HARTFORD — The Golden Fellowship Club, a social club for seniors, founded in Windsor in 1957, brings seniors together socially. Originally the group would go to lunch or just meet in each other’s homes. Eventually, in the early 1970s, the town of Windsor provided the club with a meeting place at the Sill House, where the members met monthly. Extensive rapid expansion led the club to request Windsor town officials to form what is now the Windsor Senior Center at the former L.P. Wilson Junior High School.

Golden Fellowship is a separate club open to all seniors 55 years or older, meeting every third Wednesday of the month, in the Windsor Senior Center café, 599 Matianuck Ave. Upcoming trips include: Hudson River paddle boat cruise: Aug. 10, Mohegan Sun: Sept.14, Foliage trip: Oct. 18. ACC To Hold Super Saturday

ENFIELD — Super Saturday is planned for Saturday, Aug. 6, at Asnuntuck Community College. Admissions, advising, financial aid, registration, and cashier’s office will be open from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. All services will be available on a walk-in basis. Advising for manufacturing programs and all continuing education licensure and allied health programs will also be available that day.

Placement testing for math and English will also be available that morning. SAT and ACT test scores may also be used for placement purposes. Prince Tech Alumnus Earns ACC’s Top Manufacturing Award

ROCKY HILL — A.I. Prince Technical High School graduate, Patricia Concho, was recently awarded the Bill Walthouse award by Asnuntuck Community College, the college’s most prestigious award given to a graduating manufacturing student.
