Diversification paying off for Shepherd firm

Expansion into property development has contributed to a successful year at the business headed up by former Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd and his brother Bruce.

Shepherd Offshore Group continues to expand into development supported by income from its core quay management and warehouse services activities.

In the year to 30 April 2015, the business reported turnover of £21.2m, down from £27.7m in 2014/15 when the company's accounts were boosted by the sale of a major property asset.

Strong income from quay and sports management generated a gross profit margin of 47 per cent and the business made a profit of £2.6m for the period.

The company backed its pipeline of property developments and contracts in place for quay management services to underpin future growth.

Freddy Shepherd was the chairman of Newcastle United from 1996 to 2007 when the club were acquired by retail tycoon Mike Ashley.
