    Sensex rangebound, Nifty50 trades above 7,900; EID Parry climbs 4%

    The S&P BSE Sensex started on a flat note with a positive bias on Tuesday, led by gains in HDFC, RIL, NTPC, Tata Motors, L&T, and Lupin.

    NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE Sensex traded in a range with a positive bias on Tuesday tracking mixed cues seen in other Asian markets and Wall Street overnight.

    The Nifty50 was trading above its crucial support level of 7,900 building on the gains seen on Monday.

    The broader market traded with smart gains with the BSE midcap and smallcap indices climbing 0.48 and 0.28 per cent, respectively. The overall breadth of the market remained positive with six of every ten BSE stocks trading in the green.

    Among the sectoral indices, the BSE Utilities was the top gainer, up 0.67 per cent.

    Shares of HMT climbed over 2 per cent while that of NTPC surged about 3 per cent in early trade. Cairn India shares slipped over 2 per cent. Tube Investments slipped over 2 per cent.

    Snapping its eight-day winning streak, the rupee slipped 7 paise to 66.26 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday despite positive trading in most Asian currencies.

    The domestic currency had closed at 66.19 against the greenback in the previous session amid sustained dollar selling by banks and exporters on firm foreign inflows.

    The European markets traded with steady gains. The German DAX surged 1.36 per cent while the French CAC40 edged higher by 1.22 per cent. The pan-European Euro Stoxx 50 was up 1.28 per cent. Britain's FTSE100 index was also trading with gains of 0.55 per cent.

    Most other Asian markets traded in positive territory. Japan's Nikkei closed higher by 0.58 per cent while the South Korean Kospi ended the day with gains of 0.11 per cent. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index traded higher by 0.4 per cent while mainland China's Shanghai Composite was up 0.28 per cent.

    Infosys Ltd: Country's second largest software services firm Infosys unveiled a 6.6 MW capacity solar PV power plant at its Pocharam campus in Telangana.

    HDFC & Indraprastha Medical Corporation: Housing Development Finance Corporation has sold a 2.12 per cent stake in healthcare firm Indraprastha Medical Corporation.

    BPCL: State-run oil refiner and marketer (BPCL) commissioned a new 6-million tonne crude distillation unit (CDU) at its Mumbai refinery, which will take the capacity of its oldest facility to 12 million tonne per annum.

    PTC India Financial Services Ltd: The company has sanctioned loans aggregating to about Rs 825 crore for providing assistance to power and infrastructure sector in the country, the non-banking financial company said on December 28.

    Reliance Infrastructure Ltd: Blackstone, Birla Corp and Baring Private Equity Asia are in the final race to acquire the cement business of Anil Ambani's Reliance Infrastructure.

    L&T Finance Holdings Ltd: Citigroup has increased its stake in financial services firm L&T Finance Holdings to 7.56 per cent from 5.74 per cent for about Rs 208 crore.

    NBCC Ltd: National Buildings Construction Corp has received an order worth Rs 328 crore from Nabinagar Power Generating Co Pvt Ltd to construct a township for the company's super thermal power project.

    Educomp Solutions Ltd: One of the leading education companies, said Monday that Educomp Infrastructure & School Management, subsidiary of the company, has executed agreements to sell one of its land and building to third party.

    Jindal Steel and Power Ltd: JSPL has agreed to allow lenders to its subsidiary Jindal Power Ltd to convert debt into equity in the event of a default, the company said in a statement on Monday.

    Udaipur Cement Works Ltd: JK Lakshmi Cement will sell 3.01 per cent stake or 88.9 lakh shares in its subsidiary Udaipur Cement Works (UCW) through an offer-for-sale (OFS) on Tuesday.

    Saregama India Ltd: Financial services major Reliance Capital acquired 6.82 per cent stake in popular music publishing label Saregama India for Rs 43.17 crore through open market transactions.

    The 30-share index was trading at 26,108 up 74 points or 0.29 per cent. It touched a high of 26,1116.53 and a low of 26,065.08 in morning trade.

    The Nifty50 was at 7,933 up 8 points or 0.11 per cent. It touched a high of 7,938.95 and a low of 7,923.90 in the first 30 minutes of trade.

    The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.33 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.28 per cent higher.

    NTPC (up 1.8 per cent), Sun Pharma (up 0.97 per cent), Lupin (up 0.91 per cent), Tata Motors (up 0.65%) and Bajaj Auto (up 0.60 per cent) were among the major Sensex gainers.

    ONGC (down 0.81 per cent), ICICI Bank (down 0.57 per cent), Vedanta (0.44 per cent), and TCS (down 0.27 per cent) were among the major Sensex losers.
