Double trouble

Tomorrow's action will see the potentially crucial doubles rubber. The brothers Murray are on court to face Kimmer Coppejans and Steve Darcis.

Andy will be glad to have taken little more than a couple of hours to get his singles win out of the way before icing those multi-million-pound legs for tomorrow.

I'll be back for that one. Kyle Edmund's been on the BBC, putting a brave face on after his five-set heartbreaker in the opening rubber today. He'll be better for the experience, no doubt, and there will be plenty more drama where that came from over the next 48 hours.

Have a good evening!

18:32

Andy Murray wins 6-3, 6-2, 7-5!

Murray races to 30-0 in his bid to close this one out once and for all. Bemelmans has been a competitive pain in the backside, especially with those drop-shots, and he makes Murray wait a little longer: 30-15.

The Belgian's not done yet! He thumps a backhand return down the line for 30-all. Murray's unamused and responds with a ruthless, serve-volley one-two. Match point!

Bemelmans goes long! Murray unleashes another bellow of relief/delight and Great Britain are back level in the final at 1-1.

18:27

Bemelmans 3-6, 2-6, 5-6 Murray* (*denotes next server)

On the evidence of the last couple of games, the tie-breaker isn't guaranteed here. Murray sneaks a point off the Bemelmans serve: 0-15. The Belgian nets a forehand for 0-30. Murray spanks a return back to stun Bemelmans: 0-40! Three break points.

Murray finds the margins several times on the deciding rally, toying with Bemelmans until he finally decides to put the ball away. Murray will serve for the match!

18:23

Bemelmans* 3-6, 2-6, 5-5 Murray (*denotes next server)

Murray serving to stay in the set now, as Bemelmans continues to belie that world ranking of 108. Andy takes the first point but the next is buried into the net: 15-all.

Now Murray goes narrowly long to give Bemelmans a sniff of this fourth set! Anxious looks on the Team GB bench. An excellent serve down the middle puts the Belgian on the back foot: 30-all.

Double fault! Murray has gifted Bemelmans a break point and set point. Second serve...and Bemelmans goes long on the return. Murray bellows in relief - he sounds like he's won the match itself, such is the emotion behind it - and then passes Bemelmans to drag the game to advantage Murray.

He angers the crowd by dawdling on his next serve - and they respond by cheering the subsequent fault - but Bemelmans can't hang in there. Great guts from Murray there, with the set on the line.

18:16

Bemelmans 3-6, 2-6, 5-4 Murray* (*denotes next server)

Murray finds a beautifully-weighted lob to beat the advancing Bemelmans for 0-15 but the Belgian responds with a forehand taken early to surprise his opponent. More net-based absurdity from Bemelmans next, as he flicks a lovely one at an acute angle over the net: 30-15.

Ace! 40-15. Murray puts a desperate lob long and Bemelmans holds.

18:12

Bemelmans* 3-6, 2-6, 4-4 Murray (*denotes next server)

Murray serves solidly to take the first point with authority. He's poised to put away a volley on the next, but Bemelmans' return doesn't make it back: 30-0.

Murray works himself into a commanding position on the next rally...but misses a simple forehand to convert. Then he goes long to let Bemelmans back into it! 30-all.

Ace! Right down the middle, and that puts him back in the groove. He wins a baseline war of attrition next and it's even stevens in the fourth.

18:06

Bemelmans 3-6, 2-6, 4-3 Murray* (*denotes next server)

Big game here, im terms of the prospect of this going to more than three sets. Bemelmans drops the first point, but then drop-shots his way to the next one: Murray is sick of them.

Bemelmans tries another one - which would be his tenth of the match - but it's netted. Murray then threads a backhand through the eye of the needle for 15-40! Two break points. Bemelmans goes long! Murray has broken straight back.

18:03

Bemelmans* 3-6, 2-6, 4-2 Murray (*denotes next server)

17:57

Bemelmans 3-6, 2-6, 3-2 Murray* (*denotes next server)

Murray sprints in to claim a Bemelmans dropper, but can't quite scoop it up and over. More murray swearing and this time he loses a point for it! There's a frank exchange of views by the umpire's chair but the fact remains: it's 30-0.

Bemelmans gives Murray a cheap point in return with a backhand that flies long but his next is inch-perfect into the corner - Murray uses up some more knee cartilage in pointless pursuit. He hangs in there, though, and brings it to 40-30.

Bemelmans double faults! Deuce. This third set is crawling along now. Murray anticipates a shot into the corner but can't block it back, but a Bemelmans error lets him back in to deuce. Then the Belgian nets and it's break point GB. Murray nets, and it's deuce #3.

Murray wisely opts not to chase a Bemelmans forehand into the corner...but again the Belgian can't close it out. Deuce again, but I'm sticking to this paragraph. Murray digs in to force an error and break point again. Bemelmans fancies another deuce, though. Now Murray goes long and - finally - Bemelmans hold that serve.

17:45

Bemelmans* 3-6, 2-6, 2-2 Murray (*denotes next server)

Murray wins a brief cross-court skirmish and then engineers a chance to bury a forehand into the left corner. An ace out wide takes him to 40-0, before Bemelmans reminds him of his potency at the net with a simple chip-and-charge. The Belgian finds a net cord to give Murray a straightforward hold.

17:40

Bemelmans 3-6, 2-6, 2-1 Murray* (*denotes next server)

Murray puts a careless overhead wide after Bemelmans threatens the low roof again. Murray gets a warning for some fruit language before the Belgian nets one of those unpredictable drop-shots: 15-all.

Next follows a thrilling point at the net, during which both players have to back-pedal furiously, but Murray survives it for 15-30. Bemelmans needs no second invitation to come into the net, though, and levels it up with a simple volley that skids away from Murray's reach. You wonder sometimes why Murray has to chase absolutely everything, but then you realise that's partly why he's the second-best player in the world.

Murray earns a break point - and boy has he earned this one - but he can't build on it this time: deuce. Bemelmans' serve edges him ahead, and Murray goes long to seal the hold.

17:35

Bemelmans* 3-6, 2-6, 1-1 Murray (*denotes next server)

Things are less protracted on the Murray serve, as he gets on the front foot to blow Bemelmans away. It's 40-0 in a flash, before the Belgian can only deflect a serve into the upper-tier seating. Easy enough for Murray.

17:32

Bemelmans 3-6, 2-6, 1-0 Murray* (*denotes next server)

Can Bemelmans summon any more tiny thorns for Murray's side? He moves into a 30-15 lead to open the third set, and prevails in a baseline exchange thanks to a forehand down the left sideline.

Bemelmans moves into put a volley away and seal the hold...but he nets it. And then a forehand goes long! Deuce. Back comes Bemelmans to hoodwink Murray with a forehand and the hold is secured after all.

17:26

Andy Murray wins the second set 6-2!

17:22

Bemelmans 3-6, 2-5 Murray* (*denotes next server)

17:17

Bemelmans* 3-6, 2-4 Murray (*denotes next server)

Fair weather tennis enthusiasts such as I would have expected Bemelmans - a doubles specialist with a rubber to play tomorrow - to have shown signs of submission by now. Still he keeps Murray chasing with some imaginative shots under pressure and the Belgian finds himself 0-30 to the good for his efforts!

Bemelmans nets on the stretch to reduce Murray's arrears, and again to bring them level at 30-all. Murray gets a tight call on the baseline for 40-30, and then Bemelmans nets a return.

17:11

Bemelmans 3-6, 2-3 Murray* (*denotes next server)

Murray chips away at the Bemelmans serve, moving 15-0 ahead, only to send a forehand long. Bemelmans somehow plants a backhand on to the line and then another one on the opposite side! 40-15.

Murray responds with a dagger of a backhand return to wipe the smiles off Belgian faces, but Bemelmans secures the hold with a smash from a tame Murray lob.

17:08

Bemelmans* 3-6, 1-3 Murray (*denotes next server)

Murray serves to restore some order but Bemelmans moves back to his natural habitat at the net. He bats back some Murray potshots before an easy overhead is put long: 15-0.

Murray prevails in a cross-court marathon of a rally: 30-0. Some scrappiness leads us to 40-15, before Murray lets the Belgian in to 40-30. Time for some ruthlessness from the world no.2...but it's Bemelmans who finds the decisive shot! In he comes to the net to clip a volley down and just out of Murray's reach. Deuce.

Bemelmans punches a return into the net for advantage GB, but Murray also finds the netting straight after. Bemelmans repeats the trick but Murray again lets him off. Murray serves out wide to move ahead again...only to put a forehand into the roof.

Bemelmans gives Murray another chance to see this one out and, after four deuces, Murray races into the net and slams away a loose ball for 3-1. That felt like hours.

16:56

Bemelmans 3-6, 1-2 Murray* (*denotes next server)

Points are traded before Bemelmans advances to the net again to volley one away for 30-15. But then, Murray plucks a desperate lob out of nowhere and forces Bemelmans into an error to level it.

Again Bemelmans comes in to volley his way into the lead, and then he tempts Murray in with another drop-shot that the Brit can't get hold of. Bemelmans holds in style.

16:52

Bemelmans* 3-6, 0-2 Murray (*denotes next server)

A metronomic rally bursts into life at the net as Bemelmans scoops one over - Murray can only scoop it back into play and the Belgian converts: 0-15. On the next point, the relentless Murray forehand pummels Bemelmans into eventual submission.

Murray plants a serve right on the line - Bemelmans can't adjust and it's 30-15. Murray's first ace puts him in the driving seat and Bemelmans nets his next return. Murray holds.

16:48

Bemelmans 3-6, 0-1 Murray* (*denotes next server)

Bemelmans' recovery effort begins with a 30-0 lead, but Murray soon battles back to level things up. A delightful rally - the best of the day - sees some spirited Belgian defence, a Murray dropper and, finally, a lob that just eludes the stretching Bemelmans to land behind him for 30-40 and break point Murray.

The next point is replayed after the umpire spots something nobody else does, but Bemelmans refocuses to force deuce. Murray wins another extended baseline exchange for advantage GB, and then clips a superb backhand across court to break the Bemelmans serve!

16:41

Andy Murray wins the first set 6-3!

Murray to serve for the first set, then, and Bemelmans goes long to give him the perfect start. Murray anticipates the next drop shot to spoon a simple volley over for 30-0 and then wrongfoots the Belgian after a serve out wide.

Bemelmans times his next return perfectly to plant a forehand on to the baseline: 40-15. Murray has two more set points, though. Bemelmans nets, Murray takes the set.

That wasn't easy, but Murray gradually wrested control from Bemelmans. Let's see if he settles down now.

16:38

Bemelmans 3-5 Murray* (*denotes next server)

Bemelmans is at the net again for some more tomfoolery, but Murray's not in the mood. He lobs the Belgian, and waits patiently at the net to bury the response. Murray nets a backhand return for 15-all, but then produces some superhuman defence to keep the ball alive on the next point - Bemelmans finally smashes it away for 30-15.

Murray tries a drop shot from the baseline, to which Bemelmans replies with one of his own. Nice: 40-15.

Bemelmans thinks he's done Murray a kipper again at the net, but he won't give up on it and belts a backhand into the Belgian on the run. Bemelmans just about sees it out, though.

16:32

Bemelmans* 2-5 Murray (*denotes next server)

With another break of serve in the bag, Murray this time doesn't give Bemelmans a sniff of a chance of returning the favour. It's 40-0 before you know it, and Murray buries a forehand into the corner to seal it. Bemelmans will have to serve to stay in the set.

16:30

Bemelmans 2-4 Murray* (*denotes next server)

Bemelmans has to pause while the Flanders Expo calms down, but Murray gets the Brits going again with a smart return. The Belgian double-faults for 0-30, and hits a wild forehand to give Murray three break points.

Bemelmans saves the first with an overhead smash (at the second time of asking) and dips a simple volley into an open court after Murray takes a tumble. Brief intake of breath, but he's OK. Still one more break point, and Bemelmans goes long! Murray edges himself ahead once more.

16:25

Bemelmans* 2-3 Murray (*denotes next server)

Murray gets some net-cord fortune on the way to 40-0, and then sees out a welcome hold of serve to interrupt the growing Bemelmans rhythm.

16:22

Bemelmans 2-2 Murray* (*denotes next server)

Not much to panic about, clearly, but that slip will add a few metres to the Murray workload this evening. Bemelmans (who sounds like he should have a near-Earth meteorite named after him) whips a forehand across court and the crowd are jumping! Murray nets a defensive forehand: 30-0.

Another drop shot, and he nails it again! This one was across court and landed snugly the right side of the line. Who does he think he is? Anyway, Murray keeps him honest by forcing Bemelmans into a wayward lob for 40-15, but the Belgian wraps up an impressively versatile service game.

16:17

Bemelmans* 1-2 Murray (*denotes next server)

Murray marches on, a break to the good, and forces a weak Bemelmans backhand into the net. The Belgian gives a little back, as Murray nets an awkward backhand right on the baseline. Boosted by that one, Bemelmans produces a very tidy drop shot - so good that Murray doesn't chase it: 15-30.

Murray pounces on an errant Bemelmans forehand to convert a fierce volley but the world no.108 isn't going away: break point! Another drop shot, Murray gives chase...and it's in the net! Murray is broken back!

16:13

Bemelmans 0-2 Murray* (*denotes next server)

The Belgian underdog dips a forehand into the net for 0-15, and compounds that with a nervy double-fault. And another! Three break points for Murray.

The first is saved by Bemelmans, as Murray pushes a defensive forehand wide, but Andy won't be denied.

16:09

Bemelmans* 0-1 Murray (*denotes next server)

It's the world no.2 who'll get us under way in Ghent. He serves out wide to the Bemelmans backhand, but finds the net for 0-15. Bemelmans advances to the net but goes long and does so again from the next Murray serve: 30-15.

Murray probes the Bemelmans backhand again and it pays off with an unforced error. Murray completes the hold of serve with minimal fuss.

15:58

Murray time...

The two players emerge on court for the second rubber of this Davis Cup final. I assume this won't be another five-set, three-hour epic...but you literally never know.

The coin-toss, as usual, is an inaudible mystery.

15:39

Head to head

15:30

David Goffin wins 3-6, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0!

Edmund gets to 30-0, but Goffin's looking as fresh as a daisy now and he darts into the net to convert a neat volley. The next point is won with a beautiful backhand into the left corner and then he earns match point with another winner.

Goffin goes wide - it's deuce and a stay of execution for Edmund. Another match point for Belgium, though, and Edmund's forehand looks shot to bits as he goes well long.

It was a belting start by the youngster, and he fully deserved his 2-0 lead, but simply ran out of steam as the Goffin metronome started to swing. It'll take a lot to lift Edmund from this, but he showed plenty of talent there.

Andy Murray's next!

15:25

Goffin 3-6, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1, 5-0 Edmund* (*denotes next server)

15:20

Goffin* 3-6, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1, 4-0 Edmund (*denotes next server)

Surely Edmund's last realistic chance to turn this around now. Goffin preys on the 20-year-old's tiring legs with a well-disguised forehand into the left corner. Edmund advances, but Goffin finds a superb backhand across court and the arena is delighted with that: 0-30.

Edmund nets on the stretch after another cross-courter from Goffin - three more Belgian break points. Goffin wastes the first of them, but Edmund can't rescue the second. He's broken, in more than one sense of the word.

15:16

Goffin 3-6, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1, 3-0 Edmund* (*denotes next server)

Goffin leaps into an ace down the middle - he wants to get this wrapped up as soon as possible. And another one: 30-0. Edmund anticipates well on the next one but his instinctive forehand flies down the middle...and long. Goffin wraps up the hold - and a 3-0 lead - with authority.

15:14

Goffin* 3-6, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1, 2-0 Edmund (*denotes next server)

Edmund kicks things off with a double fault. Not ideal. That forehand continues to veer from sublime to knackered, and now he finds the net again. Another double fault compounds his misery: 0-40 and three break points for Goffin.

He gets the break at the second time of asking, with a forehand into the unguarded left corner.

15:11

Goffin 3-6, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1, 1-0 Edmund* (*denotes next server)

Final set - what does Kyle Edmund have left in the tank? Goffin serves and Edmund finds some first-set magic to advance in and bury a forehand for 0-15. Good start, Kyle. And another one!

Goffin serves out wide to halve the deficit: 15-30. He engineers a chance for a belting forehand next and it's 30-all. He finds the corner with another forehand and then an ace into the corner finally puts Goffin ahead in the match!

15:04

David Goffin takes the fourth set 6-1!

14:59

Goffin 3-6, 1-6, 6-2, 5-1 Edmund* (*denotes next server)

Goffin's elfin expression hasn't changed much throughout this match, but he's on the up. He makes up for an errant forehand with his second ace of the match and then Edmund scoops a backhand long: 30-15.

Goffin hits a peculiar backhand into the net - an odd choice from the position he was in - but a third ace swiftly follows to atone: 40-30. Edmund thumps a forehand across court...but wide. Goffin holds and the third set is almost his.

14:55

Goffin* 3-6, 1-6, 6-2, 4-1 Edmund (*denotes next server)

Edmund continues to wobble and that forehand is no longer able to rescue him: it's 0-30 in a flash. Another Goffin floater drops just the wrong side of the line and, to crank up the tension a little more, the net breaks!

Edmund weighs up his second serve as the repairs are hastily made, but his forehand lets him down again when play resumes: 15-40, and two break points for Goffin.

The first of those flies well long, but Goffin forces the issue again and Edmund can't respond. We're going the distance here, surely.

14:48

Goffin 3-6, 1-6, 6-2, 3-1 Edmund* (*denotes next server)

Goffin spanks a backhand well long, and the Flanders Expo arena sighs. He gets them back on side to level it up, though and an ace down the middle puts him 30-15 to the good.

Edmund watches (and mentally wills) a Goffin forehand drop just long for 30-all, but the Belgian edges ahead again and sees out the hold with a smart forehand into the corner.

14:43

Goffin* 3-6, 1-6, 6-2, 2-1 Edmund (*denotes next server)

We pass the two-hour mark in Ghent and Goffin's all over the Edmund serve now: 0-30! The forehand is starting to waver - as are his legs, perhaps - and Goffin has three break points.

The ball pops up off the net cord and Edmund has time to weigh up his shot....too long, in fact, and he nets a weary backhand. Goffin breaks!

14:41

Goffin 3-6, 1-6, 6-2, 1-1 Edmund* (*denotes next server)

Goffin wastes a 15-0 lead with a backhand that drifts several feet wide of the line. The Belgian just finds the line on the next rally and Edmund can't adjust: 30-15.

An Edmund forehand flies long to allow Goffin the platform to hold his serve, which he does.

14:38

Goffin* 3-6, 1-6, 6-2, 0-1 Edmund (*denotes next server)

Edmund serves to start set number four. Goffin's return plonks just long: 15-0. Goffin tempts Edmund into an ambitious lob, but it's well long: 15-all.

An Edmund backhand creeps long after a pounding rally of forehands, but Goffin plants a forehand into the net with the Brit utterly stranded: 30-all!

Goffin nets after Edmund serves to the margins to out him on the back foot and that thumping forehand makes another reappearance to seal a much-needed hold of serve.

14:29

David Goffin takes the third set 6-2!

14:24

Goffin* 3-6, 1-6, 5-2 Edmund (*denotes next server)

14:20

Goffin 3-6, 1-6, 4-2 Edmund* (*denotes next server)

Edmund finds the margin with a well-times backhand to stem the Belgian tide, and Goffin wilts in the face of another forehand - nice to see that again. It's definitely back, in fact, because Edmund belts one down the left to earn three break points!

He reaches for a return to waste the first of those into the net, but moves around the ball to thump a forehand return back from whence it came and gets a break back in the third!

14:16

Goffin* 3-6, 1-6, 4-1 Edmund (*denotes next server)

14:11

Goffin 3-6, 1-6, 3-1 Edmund* (*denotes next server)

14:07

Goffin* 3-6, 1-6, 2-1 Edmund (*denotes next server)

Edmund has some hard yards to put in on the first point, but Goffin prevails for 0-15. The Belgian slices a backhand wide, though, and we're level. Edmund goes long with a mis-timed forehand - there hasn't been too many of those - but buries a presentable shot at the net to atone for it: 30-all.

Edmund taking his eye off the ball, perhaps. He goes long and it's break point Goffin. And he goes wide again! Goffin finally has something to cling on to.

14:03

Goffin 3-6, 1-6, 1-1 Edmund* (*denotes next server)

Goffin continues to wilt, netting again in response to a solid Edmund return. He's briefly boosted by an Edmund forehand that can't quite curl back in: 15-all.

Edmund overcooks his next forehand amid the excitement, and his next runs aground at the net: 40-15, and some encouragement for Goffin. He takes out some more of his frustrations by pounding an overhead into the clay and up towards the roof to hold.

14:00

Goffin* 3-6, 1-6, 0-1 Edmund (*denotes next server)

Edmund wastes little time in setting about the Belgian in set three. Another forehand of supreme authority is followed by a meef Goffin backhand into the net: 30-0.

Edmund winds up for a heroic cross-courter on the stretch, but it can't quite climb enough to beat the net. Keep it simple, Kyle! Not a good time for his first double-fault: 30-all!

Goffin can't keep that foothold, though - he nervously pops a backhand long to let Edmund off the hook. The Brit completes the hold with a flourish - a simple drop-shot has Goffin hopping about in a vain attempt to adjust his feet.

13:53

Kyle Edmund takes the second set 6-1!

Goffin serving to keep Edmund from a 2-0 lead. The Ghent crowd roars him to 15-0, but he clips a backhand long to allow Edmund back level. That's all the encouragement the 20-year-old needs: he takes two confident strides in to bury another forehand into the left corner: 15-30.

The net cord conspires against the Belgian now and Edmund has two set points!

Double fault! Edmund is flying! Two sets to love. Amazing.

13:50

Goffin* 3-6, 1-5 Edmund (*denotes next server)

Edmund's forehand rips through the court and beyond a fading Goffin for 15-0. On cue, the Belgian plucks a perfectly-timed backhand return down the line to remind everyone what he can do. Edmund, undeterred, thwacks a serve into the corner for 30-15.

On a second serve, Goffin can't make Edmund pay and finds the net. The British no.3 seals the hold with a serve down the middle. Comfortable again.

13:46

Goffin 3-6, 1-4 Edmund* (*denotes next server)

13:43

Goffin* 3-6, 1-3 Edmund (*denotes next server)

A set and a break up, Edmund lays into Goffin again, forcing him to go long on the return and then clip a tame backhand defence into the net: 30-0 in the blink of an eye.

Another forehand skips through the Ghent clay and beyond the gestural swing of Goffin's racket: 40-0! And the game is wrapped up soon after. Very, very impressive.

13:40

Goffin 3-6, 1-2 Edmund* (*denotes next server)

13:37

Goffin* 3-6, 1-1 Edmund (*denotes next server)

Goffin puts one on a plate for the Edmund forehand to send into the corner: 15-0. Goffin then puts his own forehand wide, before Edmund capitalises to move 40-0 ahead.

A huge serve out to the right gives Goffin little chance, and Edmund holds tidily to love.

13:34

Goffin 3-6, 1-0 Edmund* (*denotes next server)

Stunning start in that first set from Edmund and, as Goffin sorted himself out, an admirable closing of business from the youngster.

He hits the ground running again, with a backhand down the line that confounds the Belgian. Goffin then hits a wild backhand for 0-30! Edmund finds the top of the net with his next forehand, though, and then can't quite whip the next one into play: 30-all.

Goffin sends Edmund wide with his next serve: 40-30, and the Belgian's mini salvage operation is almost complete. The next serve loops down the middle and Edmund's racket can't get hold of it. Goffin holds.

13:27

Kyle Edmund takes the first set 6-3!

13:23

Goffin 3-5 Edmund* (*denotes next server)

Goffin's momentum increases, and Edmund swings-and-misses on the first return of the game. The next loops up and over the baseline, and Goffin eases himself a little further off the hook: 30-0.

Edmund can't get hold of a forehand down low and finds the net again, before Goffin closes out a comfortable, confident hold to love.

13:20

Goffin* 2-5 Edmund (*denotes next server)

13:16

Goffin 1-5 Edmund* (*denotes next server)

Belgium and Great Britain trade points before Edmund sends an ambitious cross-court forehand long: 30-15. That Edmund forehand won't be denied, though - he goes up the left side and Goffin is helpless to respond.

Goffin stretches to keep the next rally alive, but Edmund's poised to bury the forehand into the left corner. Set point! Goffin saves that, and then plants one awkwardly at Edmund's feet: advantage Belgium. And, finally, Goffin's on the board!

Edmund will serve for the first set.

13:10

Goffin* 0-5 Edmund (*denotes next server)

Edmund holds to love! This is extraordinary, but also a scenario that five-set matches are designed to destroy. Either way, let's enjoy it...

13:08

Goffin 0-4 Edmund* (*denotes next server)

Goffin tries to muster a response - Edmund nets a return, before the Belgian skips into the net to clip a forehand away: 30-0.

Edmund's confidence in his power is undimmed though, and he forces another error from Goffin to keep on his coat-tails, but he can't then reach far enough for a backhand and it's 40-15.

Edmund's forehand storms back: 40-30. And Goffin nets! Deuce. Edmund gets on top of the next point immediately and earns a break point! And he takes it!

Goffin threatens the rafters with another forehand for 0-15, but wrongfoots Edmund with the next one that plops neatly into the left corner. Edmund's got some serious power in that right arm, though - he forces Goffin to go long and it's 15-30. Same again, and it's two break points for Great Britain!

Edmund breaks! He only needs one of those points, pummelling the ball across court for Goffin to net.

The toss...

Goffin appears to have won the coin-toss and appears to have opted to open the serving. 90% sure of that, the arena was pumping at the time.

Terrible Davis Cup arena music, Pt. 3,492

Really captures the spirit of the Davis Cup, doesn't it? Still, we must respect the hosts and their tastes.
