Wilmington Diocese sent 7 delegates to Guatemala

On July 21, Father John Hynes and six delegates from the Wilmington Diocese will embark upon a nine-day delegation to our sister diocese of San Marcos in Guatemala.

The two dioceses have engaged in a solidarity partnership for more than 10 years. Delegates were looking forward to a July 29 meeting with Monsignor Carlos Enrique Trinidad Gómez, the new bishop of San Marcos.

The agenda was to include visits to parishes in El Rodeo, San Pablo, and El Quetzal; the medical clinic in Catarina; Cristo Salvador School; and a migrant hospitality center. Other delegates include the Rev. Glenn Evers of Ss. Peter & Paul, Easton; Christine Bauer, Christ the Teacher School; Newark; Nestor & Avelina Hernandez, and Norma Lamb, Good Shepherd, Perryville.

Delegate and Solidarity Team Leader Mary Jo Frohlich hopes that the delegation will “better connect us spiritually and emotionally with our sisters and brothers in San Marcos. It’s all about relationship. When we are in relationship, we are drawn to aid each other. This is mutually done by prayer and participation in each other’s mission. I believe that all will be transformed by the experience.”

Recalling his recent pilgrimage to the Holy Land with some Wilmington Diocese Solidarity Team members as well as the Rev. Toribio Pineda and the Rev. Silverio Chum from the San Marcos Diocese Solidarity Team, Hynes says, “It was a blessed event, filled with a constant joy and reverential awe. And yet, I must be honest with you, the land of San Marcos is a Holy Land for me.”

Those who go, he said, “meet Jesus in persons whose means and life style are even closer to first century Galilee, not only materially but in their sense of God. This is the great benefit of our Solidarity relationship: to live with a people free of materialism who judge by the values of the Gospel.”

Red Hat Society queens convene

The Queens of the Crowned Jewels, a Red Hat Society Queens Chapter, met in June at the Brick Hotel in Georgetown for their annual luncheon. The Crowned Jewels Chapter has existed since August 15, 2005 under the rein of Royal Queen and State Ambassador B.J. Young of Lewes.

The chapter’s membership consists of chapter leaders called “queens” from five states. The group’s monthly newsletter is called The Queens Notebook, which highlights upcoming Red Hat Society events in the tristate area. Any supporting chapter queen is welcome to join.

Many women have moved to Delaware and are looking for new friends and other woman to spend time with. This global society of women connects, supports and encourages them in their pursuit of fun, friendship, freedom, fulfillment, and fitness while supporting members in the quest to get the most out of life.

As well, Red Hat Society is dedicated to reshaping the way women are viewed in today's culture.
