An opera singer from Kings Langley will be taking part in Three Rivers district’s first ever variety show later this month.

Mary-Jane de Havas who also teaches singing and voice, of Vicarage Lane, trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music and has described the community event as a lovely opportunity for local performers to get involved.

Mary-Jane is currently on tour with Olivier Award winning OperaUpClose, singing Marcellina and Basilio in The Marriage of Figaro following a three month run of the opera last year in London.

The idea for the variety show, which is called That’s Entertainment 2015, was first put forward by Three Rivers District Councillor Martin Brooks three months ago.

He said: "It’s something I’ve done before, as I’ve got a background in entertainment, so brought up the idea to council chairman Chris Lloyd, and vice chairman Eric Bishop has decided to make this an annual event.

"The event will give a stage to incredibly good performing talent, through Three Rivers. If you build it, it will come - if you create the stage, people will come and perform."

Ms de Havas was invited to take part by Councillor Brooks, and will be joined by the likes of South Oxhey Choirs, RISE Dance Company and Performance Troupe, Rock Chorus.

Ms de Havas combines performing professionally with teaching singing and voice and having a family with two children. Her teaching covers vocal freedom, flexibility, stamina, breathing, confidence, expression and performance issues.

Mary-Jane is looking forward to meeting the other performers, as everyone will be turning up on the day for a technical rehearsal.

"The adrenaline will increase as the audience come in and we begin the show. I can't wait," she said.

The event will be taking place at Watersmeet in Rickmansworth on Friday, May 22 and start at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £10 adults, £8 concessions, and are available either at the Watersmeet Box Office by calling 01923 711063, online at www.watersmeet.co.uk or on the door.

Ms de Havas added: "It’s going to be a good variety show, and hopefully this will inspire more people to get involved - even people that are scared to get up on stage or people who don’t actually sing in front of anyone else."
