ICC Cricket WC 2015: West Indies vs Pakistan - As it happened...

When Pakistan came to chase down the imposing total of 310, they got off to the worst ODI start ever (one for four). And then they never quite recovered from those early blows and eventually lost the match by 150 runs -- their biggest defeat (by runs margin) in the World Cup. On the other end, West Indies recovered well after losing their opening match loss against Ireland. They played like a unit and outplayed Pakistan in all departments. For his all-round show Andre Russell was given the Man-of-the-Match award.

With the wicket of Sohail Khan Pakistan lost their second consecutive match of the ICC World Cup 2015. Dominant performance by West Indies helped them crush Pakistan by 150 runs. In the absence Saeed Ajmal and Mohammad Hafeez Pakistan unit is looking ordinary.

Afridi Out! Soft dismissal of the big hitter. He sweeps the ball straight into the hands of Holder fielding at mid-wicket. Poor batting display once again by Pakistan. Their top order is struggling badly in the absence of Mohammad Hafeez, whereas, offie Saeed Ajmal has also been missed badly in the middle overs.

Andre Russell picks up his third wicket as he gets the better of Wahab Riaz. Now it's just a formality for West Indies to seal the match as they need two more wickets to register their first victory of the 2015 World Cup. Meanwhile, Pakistan crossed the 150-run mark.

Umar Akmal Out! After playing a fine shot for four towards cow corner, the diminutive batsman picks the same spot off the next ball as well, but this time finds a fielder in Smith, who takes a simple catch at deep. The game is almost over for Pakistan. Wahab Riaz is the new man in.

Umar Akmal completes his fifty by hitting Sammy for a boundary towards point in the 28th over. He hit four boundaries and a six to reach the mark and used 56 balls. Jerome Taylor is back into the attack. The speedster produced a fiery spell in the morning to push Pakistan on to the back-foot. Afridi collects three boundaries in the 30th over off Sammy. Pakistan still required 181 runs in 20 overs to seal the match and they have four wickets in hand.

Sammy Strikes, Maqsoos Out! Immediately after completing his fifty the right hander lost his concentration and gives a catch to Benn at mid on. Hopes of Pakistan to win the match have become bleak. Shahid Afridi has joined Akmal in the middle after the fall of Pakistan's sixth wicket.

In the last five overs pair of Akmal and Maqsood added 24 runs. Both are looking solid in the middle. Maqsood completes his fifty in style by hitting spinner Benn for a boundary though mid-wicket. He used 64 balls to reach the landmark with the help of four boundaries and a six.

Even after losing five wickets early on Pakistan batsmen Akmal and Maqsood are going for their shots. A positive intent by both of them. They have already added 55 runs for the sixth wicket. Can these two turn around the tables in Pakistan's favour?, time will tell. This is the second last recognised pair for Pakistan. Sammy and Sulieman Benn are bowling in tandem for WI.

Sohaib Maqsood is also taking a leaf out of Umar Akmal's book as he smacked Sammy for a six over square leg and then collected a boundary off the next to collect 11 from over number sixteen.

Umar Akmal is the new man in. Pakistan are in deep trouble and now it seems as if a divine intervention can save them. However, Akmal has played positive cricket thus far and has quickly moved to 18 with the help of two boundaries and a six. In the mean time they have also touched the 50-run mark. Super bowling display by West Indies after putting up an imposing total of 310 after being invited to bat.

Big blow for Pakistan, skipper Misbah Out! First change bowler Russell picks up his first wicket of the match as Misbah edges the ball straight to first slip, where Gayle takes a sharp catch. Half of the Pakistan team is back to the pavilion.

According to few statisticians Pakistan's 1 run for 4 wickets is the worst ever start in ODI history! Misbah-ul-Haq and Sohaib Maqsood are in the middle after Pakistan lose way too many wickets inside the first five overs. What a fine fast bowling spell by Taylor.

Pakistan on the mat. Jerome Taylor and Jason Holder pick up one wicket each in the last two overs to reduce Pakistan to 1 for 4. Taylor first gets his third wicket in the form of Haris Sohail, who goes for a cut to give a simple catch to substitute JL Carterh at point. And then Holder provides WI their fourth breakthrough in Ahmed Shehzad, who edges the ball to Simmons at gully region. Three ducks already for Pakistan.

Poor start by Pakistan as they lost two wickets in the opening over of the innings by Jerome Taylor. The speedster first gets the better of Nasir Jamshed, who plays an poor pull shot. And then off the last ball Younis Khan edges an out-swinger straight to the wicketkeeper.  Skipper Jason Holder is the other new ball bowler for WI. The Caribbean team is right on top of the match.

Over 50 || Score 310/6

A well played knock by in-form Simmons (50) and a cameo by Russell (42 off 13) in the death overs helped West Indies to cross the 300-run mark. Sloppy fielding and big hits at the fag end of the innings assisted West Indies to put up an imposing total of 310 runs in front of Pakistan after being invited to bat first.

Sammy Out! At a time when the big hitter started going for his shots to up the ante, Wahab Riaz gets the better of him. Andre Russell is the new man in. Even though Riaz gets the wicket off his first ball, he concedes 13 from the over. 40 runs have come off the last three overs.

Though WI have two in-form batsmen at the crease in the form of Simmons and Sammy, Pakistani bowlers are doing a fairly decent job to keep them quiet. In the last two overs they conceded 13 runs. With wickets in hand, in the last five overs WI would be looking to set up a total of around 280.

Simmons, who is in rich vein of form, is smashing Pakistan bowlers all over the park. In the 41st over by Haris Sohail, Simmons hits a six and two boundaries to collect 15 from it. He is providing the much needed impetus WI need in the last ten overs to put a challenging total in front of Pakistan. 23 runs off last three overs.

Harris picks up his second wicket, Ramdin Out! Immediately after completing his fifty by a boundary off Haris, Ramin gives a simple catch to substitute Yasir Shah at long off, while trying to hit the bowler for a six. Darren Sammy comes to the middle after the fall of the fourth wicket.

Once again both the spinners -- Afridi and Haris -- have been called back to bowl a few overs. And in form batsman Simmons welcomed Afridi by launching him for a six over long on. Simmons then cut Afridi for another boundary in his next over. 21 runs have come in the last three overs.

Bravo limped out of the field at a crucial juncture of the match as WI only managed to score eight off the last three overs (Batting Powerplay on). All the left-arm medium pacers in the Pakistan squad -- Irfan, Riaz and Sohail -- are keeping things tight at the moment for West Indian batsmen to score runs freely. Eight runs have come in the last three overs.

Good counter attacking by new batsman Ramdin. He hits Haris for four boundaries in the 31 over to collect 18 from it. Meanwhile, WI have crossed the 150-run mark as well. But as the Batting Powerplay started WI get a Big blow! Their set batsman Bravo retires hurt as he seems to pull a muscle while taking a single. Centurion of their last match Lendl Simmons is the new man in for WI.

Sloppy fielding continues for Pakistan as Afridi drops Bravo at short square leg in the 29 over by Haris. Strike bowler Mohammad Irfan has been brought back into the attack -- an attacking move by skipper Misbah. Pakistan bowlers have been spot on thus far, but their fielders have disappointed them. 27 runs have come off the last five overs.

Samuels Out! Haris picks up his first wicket. Samuels dances down the ground to hit the spinner out of the park, but couldn't manage to clear the fence as sub Yasir Shah takes an easy catch at long-off. Crucial wicket for Pakistan as the right-hander was looking set in the middle. Wicket-keeper batsman Denesh Ramdin has joined Bravo at the crease.

Wahab Riaz and Shahid Afridi are bowling in tandem for Pakistan, while West Indies have crossed the 100-run mark. Runs are not coming easily for West Indies, thanks to some high-quality stuff by Pakistan bowlers. The sole boundary in the last four overs came from the bat of Samuels, when he hit Riaz towards long-on in the 24th over.

After losing both the openers early on, Samuels and Bravo have added 61-run partnership for the third wicket. Both the batsmen are dispatching the poor balls for boundaries. Wahab Riaz has been introduced into the attack in the 16th over for the very first time. Pakistan's fielding has been sloppy so far. They have dropped two catches in the last five overs, which should have been taken.

Spinners Afridi and Sohail are doing a decent job for Pakistan. They are not offering much room for West Indian batsmen to hit boundaries. On the other hand, Samuels and Bravo are dealing in singles and doubles at the moment, which is the need of the hour.

Double bowling change by Misbah as he introduces both the spinners -- Shahid Afridi and Haris Sohail. In the 12th over Bravo collected his first boundary by slapping the short ball by Sohail towards deep-midwicket. Meanwhile, WI have crosses the 50-run mark.

Marlon Samuels has come to the crease after the fall Smith's wicket. And even after losing two quick wickets early on, the veteran batsman is in a mood to stop himself from going for his shots. He has collected three boundaries in the last two overs and has quickly moved to 18 off 13. But overall it's a good start by Pakistan bowlers as both the West Indian openers are back in the hut within first ten overs.

Dwayne Smith Out! Sohail Khan picks up his first wicket of the match. A length ball, Smith goes to the back-foot to punch it through covers, but only manages a thick outside edge as Haris Sohail takes a sharp catch to perish the right hander. It's a big blow for WI as Smith was looking in the middle.

Irfan strikes, Chris Gayle Out! Bigger hitter of the cricket ball, Gayle, tries to break the shackles, goes for a pull, couldn't connect it well and this time Wahab Riaz takes a well judged catch in the end. One left-hander replacing another as Darren Bravo comes to the crease. Three runs have come in last two overs.

Mohammad Irfan is bowling at a tight line and forcing the West Indian openers to try something extra to hit boundaries. Sohail Khan too has picked up his line and length early on in the innings. Gayle is struggling at the moment in the middle. Three runs have come from the last two overs.

A hint of movement for the fast bowlers early on. But a couple of boundaries as well from the bat of Smith as West Indies started off well. 

Regular openers Chris Gayle and Dwayne Smith are opening the innings for WI, whereas, Mohammad Irfan and Sohail Khan are the strike bowlers for Pakistan.

The 44-day World Cup is barely a week old and Pakistan and the West Indies are already viewing their second match as crucial to morale and potentially to their survival.

Both suffered first game defeats and both are embroiled in off-field controversy, with their Pool B clash in Christchurch on Saturday likely to be decided by the team best able to overcome disharmony in the ranks.

Before the tournament, Pakistan and the West Indies, along with South Africa and India, knew that on world rankings they should fill the four Pool B quarter-final slots ahead of Zimbabwe, Ireland and the United Arab Emirates.

But when Ireland reprised their giant-killer role to beat the West Indies in Nelson it became clear to Pakistan that they in turn could not afford to fall to a wounded Caribbean side determined to claw back lost points.
