TORONTO -- North American stock exchanges and the Canadian dollar were down late Friday morning.

The S&P/TSX composite was down 43.98 points at 15,342.79, adding to a 64-point decline Thursday.

The Dow Jones industrial futures were down 267.66 points at 17,838.11, the Nasdaq futures fell 63.04 points to 4,944.75, and the S&P 500 futures 21.25 points to 2,083.74.

The loonie was down 0.27 of a U.S. cent at 81.83 cents US, although it had begun the day up from Thursday's close.

On the commodity markets, the May crude contract was down 30 cents at US$56.41 a barrel and the June gold contract rose $6.70 to US$1,204.70 an ounce.
