Drainage facility

January 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST

Residents of Indira Street, Keela Ambikapuram, have been deprived of drainage facility for the past two or three decades. Despite many representations to Tiruchi Corporation, the problem has not been solved. During rainy days, rainwater does not drain and causes health problems. Proper drainage facility should be provided.

A.Eliza,

Ambikapuram.

Populist policies

Farmers demand Rs. 4,000 for a tonne of sugarcane they supply to sugar mills. The mills have to pay for wages, power, utilities, maintenance and depreciation. They have other expenditure also. The media must highlight the cost economics of sugar production, not just farmers’ demands. Populist policies must go if we need to succeed as a developed nation.

T.M. Renganathan,

Srirangam.

Certain areas of Tiruchi Corporation are yet to get underground drainage facility. Crawford (ward number 41) area is stinking due to open gutters. Over 10 apartments have emerged and septic tanks have been connected to gutters on Crawford Main Road making the area a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Moreover, garbage is not being cleared regularly. The private agency must be penalised for its slipshod work.

H. Ghouse Baig,

Crawford.

Cleanliness drive

The Prime Minister has initiated cleanliness campaign. Every Indian has to contribute to make his area clean. High quality public conveniences must be established in important places of public gathering. Associations and community organisations should spearhead the drive.

A. Prabaharan,

Puthanampatti.

Air pollution

Air pollution caused by emissions from badly maintained vehicles and burning of garbage has been on the rise. Only zero emission certified vehicles need to be permitted to ply on roads. Recycling waste should be encouraged to reduce pollution.

Kannan Store.

Traffic congestion

Pattabhiraman Street was provided with proper stormwater drain. However, auto consultants occupy sides of the narrow road hindering free flow of traffic. The authorities must remove these encroachments to make way for free vehicular movement.

Remove weeds

Weeds on both sides of the Kudamurutti make it difficult for motorists to use its banks.

The inner slope of the eastern bank has been covered with weed growth which would cause great damage if not removed periodically. The authorities concerned should take early action to remove weeds and make the bank strong and user-friendly.

Water supply

Ramnagar in 7th Cross East of Thillainagar in ward number 56 was formed three decades back. Tiruchi Municipality laid a small water pipeline from which individual house connections were given. Though many houses as well as several flats have come up subsequently, the corporation has not changed the pipeline with bigger ones. Will the authorities change them and supply sufficient water to houses?

S.Sampath,

Thillainagar.

Bad road

The primary health centre for children on Nelson Road, ward number 3, Srirangam, has several bottlenecks. The entrance to the unit has an open sewage. The roof should be changed in view of hazards of asbestos. Safety of children must be given top priority.

Aravind.K.Rao,

Srirangam.

Drinking water

Drinking water, pumped from the Kollidam and supplied to most parts of the city, is not good. The former Corporation Commissioner had said that supply of discoloured water would continue for two months till the residual silt gets totally dissolved. No improvement is seen in the quality of water even after a lapse of four months. Pure drinking water should be supplied. If it is not possible, water could be supplied from the Cauvery as was done before.

Bus service

About 500 workers and daily wage earners travel from Srirangam to Thuvakudi covering a distance of 23 km. Employees working in BHEL ancillary units and other workshops utilise the town bus service. If a direct town bus service from Srirangam to Thuvakudi is operated between 8.30 and 9 a.m., it would be very useful for the workers. Service for a return trip from Thuvakudi to Srirangam between 5.30 to 6.30 p.m. may also be operated.

R.Jagadeesan,

Srirangam.

Bad roads

Most of the roads in Manachanallur are in bad shape. As small potholes are not patched up before rains, they have become pond like pits after recent rains. Manachanallur- Kalpalayam road is completely damaged. A heap of bitumen mixture heaped along Manachanallur –Thirupancheeli Road five months back is lying waste till date. The roads should be repaired immediately.

S. Chandra Sekaran,

Manachanallur.

Autorickshaw drivers

Despite a strict order from the Police Commissioner, no autorickshaw driver follows the meter fare. The court order has been totally neglected. Strict and drastic action needs to be taken against erring drivers.

Janaki S.Raj,

Tiruchi.

Infrastructure

The Public Works Department’s efforts to provide entertainment infrastructure at Mukkombu have gone down well with the people. Although the PWD has improved infrastructure, the toy train and the boat club are yet to be thrown open to the public. I request the authorities to provide additional infrastructure.

R. Rajesh,

Tiruchi.
