Fundraising efforts are underway for a 13-year-old Fond du Lac boy who was struck by a car while riding his bicycle.

Grant Corbin was flown to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and as of Saturday was in a medically-induced coma and had suffered a stroke, according to a Facebook page: Prayers for Grant Corbin.

His mother Jenifer Corbin had posted that her son was having a procedure done on his lung and doctors had found an injury to an artery in the left side of the teen's neck that might have caused his stroke.

A prayer chain on Facebook alone had been read by 21,995 people and more than $2,000 dollars was raised in a 48-hour period. Supporters are making bracelets, and a hospital fund has been set up at: gofundme.com/gifn5w.

Grant has extensive brain injuries and has already undergone two surgeries due to bleeding in his brain. He has developed pneumonia because of fluid in his lungs.

The Corbin Family is not only being faced with Grant's condition but also will be faced with extremely high medical bills and traveling expenses, according to to Gofundme.com site.

Grant is described as a "very athletic young man who enjoys playing football, baseball and is also a swimmer. He enjoys reading and has to always have the last word. He has two wonderful sisters and a great brother all at home. When Grant grows up he wants to major in mathematics and physics."

The teen attends STEM Institute in Fond du Lac and is a chess player.

The seventh grade Fondy Junior Football team played in the Midwest Gridiron Classic this weekend in Dekalb, Ill. and all the players wore GC stickers on their helmets in support of Grant.

Grant sustained head injuries in the crash that occurred on Tuesday, Oct. 28. He was traveling east on Western Avenue along the sidewalk at 6:14 p.m. when he rode into the crosswalk at Military Road and was struck by a vehicle traveling south on Military Road according to Fond du Lac Police.

"The driver had a green light on Military Road and according to witness reports at the scene, the bicyclist failed to stop for the traffic signal and proceeded out into the intersection and collided with the vehicle," said Fond du Lac Assistant Police Chief Steve Klein said. "Unfortunately, he wasn't wearing a helmet."

A food train for meals for the family is being set up and fund raiser/silent auction/dance is in the planning stages.
