Johannesburg - Robin Peterson will replace injured Aaron Phangiso in the Proteas squad for the Australian leg of their limited overs tour of New Zealand and Australia, Cricket SA said in a statement on Friday.

Phangiso suffered a sprained finger and will be sidelined for approximately four to six weeks.

“Aaron sustained a grade two ligament sprain of a joint of the middle finger in his left hand,” Proteas team manager Mohammed Moosajee said.

“The injury was sustained during a match for the Highveld Lions three weeks ago, and was aggravated during the current tour. He complained of discomfort over the last few days, and a subsequent MRI scan on Friday confirmed the severity of the injury.”

CSA selection convenor Andrew Hudson said Peterson had shown impressive form for the Cobras in the domestic one-day series.

“His experience will be invaluable with the World Cup just around the corner,” Hudson said.

The Proteas will play three T20 Internationals and five ODIs against Australia.
