Famous New Zealanders join Bright Sparks 2014

Famous New Zealanders join Bright Sparks 2014

Sir Ray Avery and Michelle Dickinson will each play a part at the Bright Sparks 2014 awards ceremony in Auckland on October 30.

Sir Ray - a successful businessman, scientist, inventor and philanthropist - will deliver a keynote address to the 22 Bright Sparks 2014 finalists.

A longtime champion of Kiwi innovators, he said he was proud to be part of Bright Sparks 2014.

“Fostering and recognising the technology talent that exists in New Zealand is vital to our nation’s future," he said.

“Bright Sparks has long been a part of that and I look forward to being involved in another successful year for the competition”

Dickinson, known as Nanogirl, is a successful nano-mechanical scientist. She was one of only eight scientists worldwide to be invited to Sir Richard Branson's Necker Island to discuss technology and sustainability solutions earlier in 2014.

She will MC the awards ceremony, held at the Waipuna Conference Centre in Mt Wellington, Auckland.

“Bright Sparks is an incredibly important part of New Zealand’s innovation landscape," Dickinson said.

“I’m excited to be MCing the Awards and introducing the exciting work of young clever Kiwis to the wider community.

“It is going to be a great celebration of this country’s brilliant young minds.”

The 22 finalists can be viewed here.
