West Virginia corrals Petty, No. 4 Baylor

Clint Trickett passed for 322 yards and three touchdowns and West Virginia surprised sloppy fourth-ranked Baylor 41-27 on Saturday in Morgantown, West Virginia.

The Mountaineers (5-2, 3-1 Big 12) earned their first win over a top-five opponent since their Fiesta Bowl win over No. 3 Oklahoma after the 2007 season.

West Virginia sacked Baylor’s Bryce Petty four times and limited the Bears to one touchdown after halftime.

Baylor (6-1, 3-1) was penalized 18 times for a Big 12-record 215 yards. Seven were for pass interference.

(3) Mississippi 34, Tennessee 3: Bo Wallace threw two TD passes and the Rebels (7-0, 4-0 Southeastern Conference) had another dominating defensive performance in a victory over the Volunteers (3-4, 0-3) in Oxford, Mississippi.

Ole Miss, which is off to its best start since 1962, came in giving up just 11.8 points per game, which ranked first in the SEC and second in the country.

(7) Alabama 59, (21) Texas A&M 0: Blake Sims passed for 268 yards and three TDs and scored on a 43-yard run while leading the Crimson Tide (6-1, 3-1 SEC) to 35 second-quarter points in a rout of the Aggies (5-3, 2-3) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Alabama shut down the nation’s No. 4 offense and outgained A&M 602 yards to 172.

(8) Michigan State 56, Indiana 17: Connor Cook passed for 332 yards and three TDs, Nick Hill ran for 178 yards and a TD and Jeremy Langford rushed for 109 yards and three scores as the Spartans (6-1, 3-0 Big Ten) scored the final 35 points to wallop the Hoosiers (3-4, 0-3) in Bloomington, Indiana.

(10) Georgia 45, Arkansas 32: Freshman Nick Chubb ran for 202 yards and two TDs and the Bulldogs (6-1, 4-1 SEC) dominated on the road for the second straight week without suspended star running back Todd Gurley, beating the Razorbacks (3-4, 0-4) in Little Rock, Arkansas.

(14) Kansas State 31, (11) Oklahoma 30: Jake Waters threw a pair of TD passes and Oklahoma’s Michael Hunnicutt missed a 19-yard field goal late as the Wildcats (5-1, 3-0 Big 12) edged the Sooners (5-2, 2-2) in Norman, Oklahoma.

Hunnicutt, touted as an All-America candidate before the season, missed two short field goals and had an extra point blocked.

(12) TCU 42, (15) Oklahoma State 9: Trevone Boykin threw for a career-high 410 yards with three TDs, two on long plays to Josh Doctson in the first quarter, and the Horned Frogs (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) crushed the Cowboys (5-2, 3-1) in Fort Worth, Texas.

Doctson had seven catches for 225 yards, while B.J. Catalon ran for 102 yards and two scores for TCU.

(13) Ohio State 56, Rutgers 17: J.T. Barrett completed his first nine passes, ran for 107 yards and two TDs and threw for three more scores to lead the Buckeyes (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten) over the Scarlet Knights (5-2, 1-2) in Columbus, Ohio.

(19) Nebraska 38, Northwestern 17: Ameer Abdullah had four 1-yard TD runs and QB Tommy Armstrong Jr. scored on a 16-yard catch, leading the Cornhuskers (6-1, 2-1 Big Ten) over the Wildcats (3-4, 2-2) in Evanston, Illinois.

(24) Clemson 17, Boston College 13: C.J. Davidson ran for a 32-yard TD with 9:35 to play and the Tigers (5-2, 4-1 ACC) turned back the Eagles (4-3, 1-2) in Boston.

(25) Marshall 45, Florida International 13: Rakeem Cato broke Russell Wilson’s NCAA record by throwing a TD pass for the 39th straight game, finishing with four TD tosses as the Thundering Herd (7-0, 3-0 Conference USA) beat the Golden Panthers (3-4, 2-3) in Miami.
