Hudson Valley Harvest Festival — Ulster County Fairgrounds, 249 Libertyville Road, New Paltz. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 21. Third annual event features farmers market, a kids play and activities area, craft and food vendors, music, a pumpkin patch, live animal exhibits, contests, home and garden demos and tag sale. General admission tickets are $5; ages 5 and under are free. Tickets are available at the gate. The festival will help support the community based programs provided by Family of Woodstock, Inc. and Cornell Cooperative Extension Ulster County, two 501(c)3 nonprofit agencies serving Ulster County. Auditions for "The Nutcracker" — Pinewood School of Dance, 115 Old Route 52, Stormville. Sept. 21. Dutchess Dance Theatre will hold open auditions for all local dancers regardless of where they study. Male and female dancers age 7 to adult are welcome. Ballet roles require a minimum of 2 years training (1 year for 7-year-olds). Non-dancing roles are also available for adults. Production scheduled for Dec. 6 and 7 at Roy C. Ketcham High School. Oktoberfest — Tymor Park, 8 Tymor Park Road, Union Vale. Noon-7 p.m. Sept. 21. This event is rain or shine with plenty of tent space. Bounce houses, playground, volleyball court, and more. Olana Under the Stars program — Olana State Historic Site, 5720 Route 9G, Hudson. 7 p.m. Sept. 21. The Olana Partnership will host an A Night Under the Stars at the Wagon House Education Center. Join a panel of local astronomers for a question and answer session, and an opportunity to view the stars through a variety of telescopes, weather permitting. Bring a pair of binoculars, if desired, along with a red flashlight. Pre-registration requested. $5 per person. Open house — Little Red Schoolhouse, North Park Elementary School, 1593 Route 9G, Hyde Park. 1-3 p.m. Sept. 21. The Town of Hyde Park Historical Society will host an open house at the 1845 one-room schoolhouse located on the grounds of the elementary school. Music by student musicians. Bring lawn chairs. Rock-climbing program — Mohonk Preserve, 3197 Route 44/55, Gardiner. Programs at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through October, weather permitting. Interpretive program on "How Did the Rope Get Up There? History and Practice of Gunks Rock Climbing" and "Ecology and People of the Shawangunks, Yesterday and Today." No reservations required. Meet at the Trapps Bridge. These programs will last about 20 minutes and involve a gentle stroll. Nonmembers pay $12 day-use fee. Children 12 and under are free.
