THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Conroe Independent School District reports on campus updates for The Woodlands area schools from February 12-18.

Birnham Woods Elementary School

Fourth Graders will be taking their reading benchmark on Wednesday, February 12. Second Graders will be taking their reading benchmark on Thursday, February 13.

On February 13 and 14 our Parent Teacher Organization will host Pastries with Parents. This fun filled event will take place before school between 6:45-7:35 a.m. Pastries and coffee/juice will be served during this time for you to enjoy with your student(s).

All grade level Valentine Parties will take place on Friday, February 14. Congratulations to our winners in the Never Tardy Incentive Raffle sponsored by Kyle Sherburne, State Farm. Our lucky winners are Kindergarten's Emily Draper, first grade's Joshua Ricks, second grade's Mariam Stewart, third grade's Hayden Fisher and fourth grade's Cesar Tacoronte Rodriguez.

A big congratulations goes out to our Third Grade teacher, Mindy Loxterman, for winning the Teachers Achieving Excellence staff raffle.

Congratulations to our wonderful artists who participated in the Western Art Show. They are Kindergarten's Landon Gates, Grant Guenther and Dakota Henry; first grade's Rebecca Ruiz; second grade's Nigella Lewis; and third grade's Hailey Aguilar and Rachel Jimenez.

Broadway Elementary School

Thursday, February 13, the Broadway Student Council will be delivering Singing Valentines to our students and staff. The Singing Valentines will be delivered along with a carnation.

Then on Friday, February 14 our school will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart. Our students have been practicing their jump roping along with learning about being "heart healthy." Our students will also enjoy Valentine Parties throughout the building on Friday, February 14.

Buckalew Elementary School

Boosterthon fundraiser starts on February 19. This year's theme is “Camp High Five!” Leadership, character, fitness, learning and good attitudes will be traits discussed in classrooms over the next few weeks, culminating in an exciting Fun Run February 28.

Bush Elementary School

On Thursday, February 13 award-winning author Susan Stevens Crummel is coming. She has written several books including Help Me Mr. Mutt, My Big Dog, and Cook-A-Doodle-Do to name a few.

Students will have school on Monday, February 17.

Collins Intermediate School

Collins has a yearly book fair for Valentine's Day. Hours are 8 - 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10-Thursday, Feb. 13. We are also open from 8-12 p.m. on Valentine's Day. Our family events are between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday of that week. Adult family members are invited to bring their lunch to the library with their student and do a little shopping for dessert. Any student who brings an adult family member to lunch receives a raffle ticket for $25 worth of free books from the fair, and any student who buys a book at the fair qualifies for a separate drawing for $25 in Scholastic books. The online book fair is open now! It runs from January 27-Februay 16. Even more books are available online. February 10 at 1:15 p.m. there will be a PTO Meeting.

Mission to Mars field trips are as follows: February 11 from 6 a.m.-1 p.m., February 12 from 6 a.m.-2 p.m., February 13 from 6 a.m.-3 p.m.

February 14 will be NEAT Pep Rally at College Park High School.

Cox Intermediate School

Timberwolf teachers are Recognizing Our Committed Kids. Teachers are keeping their eyes out for students who are making great choices in behavior. David Elementary School

Students who had no absences or tardiest for the second nine weeks, will participate in a pep rally at College Park High School on Friday, February 14.

The spring fundraiser, "Under the Big Top," will be held on Friday, February 21, from 5:30 - 8 p.m. at David Elementary. There will be dinner, games, entertainment and lots of fun! Tickets are available for purchase online at the Dolphin Webstore.

Deretchin K-6 School

Author Susan Crummel will be on our campus visiting with Grades K-3 on February 12. Make sure to ask your child about this exciting library trip!

Valentine Day is quickly approaching. All students in grades K-4 will be celebrating the holiday in different fashions. Please look for more information in your student folders.

Ford Elementary School

Jump Rope for Heart is scheduled for February 13. Morning and afternoon Pre-K Valentine's Day parties will be held on February 13, at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Valentine's Day parties for Kindergarten through fourth grade will be on February 14, at the following times: Kindergarten -12:15 p.m., first grade - 1:15 p.m., second grade - 1:30 p.m., and third and fourth grades – 2 p.m.

Students will come to school on February 17, to make-up for the ice day.

Tutoring for third and fourth grade is held every Tuesday and Wednesday after school from 3:30 – 5 p.m.

Glen Loch Elementary School

Calling all Glen Loch Alumni: come buy a brick and be a part of Glen Loch history forever! The Parent Teacher Organization is selling personalized bricks as an ongoing fundraiser.

Jump Rope for Heart will be held on February 14 during specials classes.

The Gator takeover of Spring Creek BBG will be held on Tuesday February 18 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Please continue to drop off your plastic shopping bags for our recycling collection. Plastic bag recycling bins are located just inside the front doors.

Hailey Elementary School

February 13 is Spirit Night at Chick-Fil-A. Let the restaurant know you are from Hailey, and a portion of the sales will be donated to our school.

Classes will celebrate Valentine's Day parties on February 14. Please send a valentine for each student in your child's class.

The College Park Feeder NEAT Kids Pep Rally has been rescheduled to Friday morning, February 14. If your child was Never Ever Absent or Tardy during the fall semester, please complete and return the permission slip for them to attend this special event.

Monday, February 17, is a regular school day.

Students are encouraged to bring aluminum cans for recycling every Friday for the Cash for Cans program.

Houser Elementary School

The Houser PE department is hosting a Jump Rope for Heart Fundraising Event starting on Monday, February 3. The event will be concluded with the students participating in Jump Rope Events on Friday, February 14 in their PE classes.

Poison Control Presentations will be held for students in the Houser Library on Tuesday, February 10.

Spring Pictures will be held on Wednesday, February 12.

Valentine's Day Events in classrooms will be held throughout the day on Friday, February 14.

Fourth Graders will enjoy their field trip to Sam Houston Museum on Friday, February 14.

PTO is hosting a Pastries for Parents event from 7-8 a.m. on Friday, February 14.

Monday, February 17 is a regular school day.

Regional Spelling Bee is Monday, February 17 at 5 p.m.

Third grade Field Trip to Spring Creek Nature Center on Wednesday, February 19.

Houser Spirit Night at Red Robin, Thursday, February 20 at 5-7 p.m.

Irons Junior High School

Science students from Irons JHS took their Science Fair presentations to the Lone Star Convention Center on Saturday, February 1 and came home with 12 Science Fair Medals. These students placed first through fifth in their divisions in the district science fair. There were over 1,000 participants! We are so proud of them! These students placed fifth in their division: Haley Nillen and Nathan Nguyen. These students placed fourth in their division: Matthew St Laurent, Sanjana Ramchandran, Tommy Gardner, Bailey Reeder, Savannah Evans and Syd Harper. These students placed third in their division: Jennifer Nguyen and Bethany Lockridge. Abigail Bates placed second in her division and automatically advanced to the Houston Science Fair. Kelsie Alexander placed First in her division and automatically advanced to the Houston Science Fair.

There were 11 Choir students who auditioned for the All Region Choir on Saturday, January 25 at Tomball Junior High School. Four Students placed into the choir and those students are: Callie D'Etcheverry, Susie Falconer, Brooke Miller, and Jennifer Nguyen. We are proud of all 11 students who prepared and worked hard for the auditions.

This past Saturday, members of the Irons Band competed in the Conroe ISD Individual Solo and Ensemble competition. The band program had 145 students compete and 131 of those students earned a Division 1 rating and a medal, which is the highest honor you can receive at this competition. Please congratulate all students who competed on Saturday. Mr. Gibson and Ms. Russell are very proud of your accomplishment. Irons Junior High is proud to recognize the following students for their academic or social achievements. The “Red Hot” learning team 7-1 would like to recognize Guadalup Vasquez. The “All Staar” learning team 7-3 would like to recognize Noah Byrd. The "Iron Nation" learning team 8-1 would like to recognize Amber Waldron. The "Spirit" learning team 8-4 would like to recognize Maggie Loring.

Mrs. Willeford Artists of the Week are Emily Garza from Ceramics. Emily has made great progress on her clay mask and it's looking awesome! Marc Previlor from Art I. Marc always puts forth great effort and attitude! Haleigh Gallant from Art III. Haleigh has done a beautiful job working through her direct observation drawing... it's almost done! Congratulations to these talented, dedicated students! Keep up the good work!

Choir of the week goes to Concert Choir.

Kaufman Elementary School

Scholastic Bookfair runs February 10 – 14. The book fair will be open daily for student purchases. Parents may shop with their students after signing in at front desk. Times for students to buy are 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. daily. We will be open at 6:45 a.m. during Mornings with Moms, Wednesday, February 12 – Friday, February 14. The book fail will also be open during the evenings, on Tuesday and Thursday, 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Stop by to see Clifford the Big Red Dog and enter for a chance to win $25 in free books.

Those that have signed up for Mornings with Moms get to enjoy donuts with their “cougars” on Wednesday, February 12 through Friday, February 14. Donuts will be served from 6:45 a.m. until 7:30 a.m.

Friday, February 14 students will have their Valentine's Day parties, which is a designated candy day.

Due to the inclement weather in January, students will make up their first missed day on February 17.

The middle of the year Social Studies Benchmark test will be taken by students in second through fourth grades on February 18.

Knox Junior High School

The Gingham Girls competed at New Caney High School on Saturday, February 1. The Girls won several awards including Sweepstakes, Judge's awards, Best In Class, Choreography, Technique, Presentation and Precision. Individual awards were won by the following students: Kara Patrick and Ehlysa Ingalls, First place, Duet; Mattie Kethen, third place, Solo; Caley Ruteledge, second place, Solo; and Ava Gonzalez, First place, Solo. The Gingham Girls next competition will be February 15 at Klein Oak High School.

Students competed in the Science Fair held at Lone Star College on Friday, January 31. The following awards were achieved: seventh grade Behavioral/Social- Lora Vaughan, First place; Kayhra Lewis, third place; Alexander Olesky, fourth place; Mallory Rhodes, fifth place. Lamar Elementary School

Great job on your program second grade!

February 13 is the Reading Benchmark for Grades 2-4. We are having a closed campus that day.

Progress Reports are also going home on February 13.

We are having school on February 17.

McCullough Junior High School

Congratulations to the McCullough Choir members who participated in the Region Choir auditions on January 25. Fifty McCullough Choir members auditioned and thirty-one were selected to participate in the All-Region Choir on February 8. Of the thirty-one students from McCullough who advanced, twenty-one were in the top ten in their audition rooms and four were ranked number one. We are very proud of all of the choir members who auditioned. The following students were selected to perform in the Region Choir. Soprano 1: Laura Barlow, Chloe Bruns, Fiona Cherry, Alison Eaton, Grace Hanshaw, Tessa Juillard, Maya Krishnan, Melody Ozaki, Katherine Stobbe, Alex Tyler, and Hannah Wiesner. Soprano 2: Carly Hale, Taylor Hall, Varsha Iyer, Camryn Lutes, Taylor Mathis, Rachel Meltzer, Paige McCombs, and Samantha Roberts. Alto: Jaden Harris, Jessica Helgerud, Rebecca McNight, Shelby Steele, Haley Thompson, and Michelle Vandamme. Tenor 1: Magnus Kroken and Spencer Ricks. Tenor 2: Hunter Higginson, John Ipek and Paul Tesh. Bass: Tanner Kralich.

Students may purchase Valentine chocolate heart candy grams during lunch February11 through February 12 for $1.00 each. The candy grams will be delivered during advisory on February 14.

Mitchell Intermediate School

Grades fifth and sixth will take a Reading Benchmark on Thursday, February 13.

Monday, February 17 will be a normal white school day to make up for the day missed for inclement weather.

LC 7 will go on a Field Trip down to the Houston Museum of Natural Science for Mission to Mars on Tuesday, February 18.

LCs 3 and 6 will present their Envision Expo projects in the school library on Tuesday, February 18.

Oak Ridge Elementary School

Oak Ridge Elementary will be hosting “Pastries with Parents” from 7 – 7:45 a.m. on Friday, February 14. Students are welcome to come to school early with their parents to have breakfast in the cafeteria.

Oak Ridge High School

On Friday, February 31 two Oak Ridge High School seniors signed their Letters of Intent to play baseball. Congratulations to Alex Walker who will be playing for San Jacinto College and to Drew Morytko who will be playing for Webster University.

Congratulations to Ethan Bates, Ian Crossland, Stacy Larsen and Bobby Simpson who will advance to the UIL State Debate Meet which will be held in Austin in March.

Congratulations to juniors Jonny McClanahan and Bryce Brady for taking First place at the Magnolia tournament and for qualifying for the Texas Forensic Association State Meet to be held in Houston in March. Jonny and Bryce have qualified for TFA State every year since they were freshmen!

The Oak Ridge High School Power Lifting Team competed at Milby High School on Saturday, January 18. As a team the boys placed first and the girls placed second. Congratulations to our Power Lifting Team!

Powell Elementary School

Friday, February 14, is Go Texan Day at Powell.

On Friday, February 14, kindergarten through fourth grade Panthers will be having Valentine Celebration activities throughout the day.

On Friday, February 14, the Parent Teacher Organization's Boosterthon will be having it's Fun Run. Rain date is Monday, February 10.

On Monday, February 17, Spring Book Fair opens. Come and enjoy all the books for sale!

Panthers are encouraged to participate in the 2014 Kids Running For Kids race on February 15 in Market Street.

Snyder Elementary School

Valentine's Day celebrations will take place on Friday February 14. You will receive information from your child's teachers.

Due to our inclement weather day Monday February 17th will be a regular school day not a student holiday.

The Woodlands Ninth Grade High School

Rising Ninth Grade Parent Information for Electives is Monday, February 10 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at The Woodlands High School Ninth Grade Campus.

Rising Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelth Grade Parent Information for Electives is Tuesday, February 11 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at The Woodlands High School Senior Campus.

The Woodlands High School

The Debate team will be attending a tournament at Harvard in Cambridge. The tournament will take place on February 15-16. Students will debate in Harvard classrooms and will have 6 preliminary rounds over the 2 days. The top 48 debaters in each event (out of several hundred) will advance to elimination rounds. Good luck Highlanders.

Wilkerson Intermediate School

Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, February 11 – several things are happening that day: The Reading Benchmark for both fifth and sixth grades; we will be observing a closed campus for this benchmark test. Science Club will meet after school – students should wear their science club shirts to school Spirit Night at Spring Creek Barbeque located on the north bound feeder road near Research Forest and I-45 - part of the evening's proceeds will benefit our students!

Progress reports go home in the Tuesday/Newsday folders.

McCullough Information night for rising sixth graders @ 6 p.m.

Art Club will meet Wednesday, February 12 immediately after school. Please wear your art club shirt and have your ride pick you up by 5:15 p.m.

The N.E.A.T. (Never Ever Absent or Tardy) pep rally has been rescheduled for Friday, February 14. Permission slips have been given to the students who are eligible to attend.

York Junior High School
