As the school year comes to a close, you may be wondering how to properly thank your child’s teacher or daycare provider.

The good news is that an inexpensive, thoughtful gift packs just as a big punch as a gift certificate to an exclusive day spa.  Recruit fellow parents to contribute to the group gift – they will appreciate you taking the lead and figuring out the perfect gift. Here are some great group gift ideas for teachers:

Build a classroom library: This is a perfect group gift that will add value to the classroom for years to come. Each student brings in a copy of their favorite book with a written message in the front cover signed with their name and “class year.” Ta-da — a library for future students.

Grow a garden: Does your child’s teacher like to garden? Have each child bring in a packet of seeds and chip in to purchase some potting soil, garden gloves and maybe a sun hat. Each child can attach a personalized note to their packet of seeds, thanking him or her for helping them “grow” during the school year.

Restock the classroom: Help your child’s teacher save time and money over the summer by restocking her shelves. Have each child bring in needed school supplies such as pencils, pens, paper, crayons, Kleenex and Clorox wipes. The basket of goodies can be dedicated to next year’s students and each child can write a note to the new students telling them what they loved best about their school year.

Create a perfect summer day: Your child’s teacher deserves a wonderful summer, so give him or her the supplies to do so. Purchase a large beach bag and ask each child to contribute a summer-like items such as sun block, a good book, beach towel and lemonade mix. Your child can attach a note wishing his or her teacher a great summer and list a reason why the teacher needs a good break.

Let your imagination run wild — teachers appreciate your efforts and kindness, but most of all the feeling that they have made a difference in the life of your child.
